In the Galleries

ATTENTION ICON by Madison Mullen (WSU MFA THESIS SHOW)

Attention Icon explores the queer-female experience through digital and physical realities. This body of work includes painting, video, and installation to curate an experience that questions how we consume and curate digital spaces.

Making, Mending, Becoming: Native Embodiment through Reconstruction and Material Memory by Sloane Dyer (WSU MFA THESIS SHOW)

As a contemporary Native artist and woman, Sloane Dyer approaches her practice with a sharp awareness of the spaces she inhabits and the bodies they were built to exclude — her presence within them, she believes, is inherently political. Her process is rooted in intuition and emotion, working slowly on the floor with paint, mixed media, and fiber. Layering and integrating materials into the canvas until they reflect something true to her inner world. The deconstruction of her work — tearing canvases from their frames, stitching and reassembling fragments — serves as both a physical and conceptual refusal of colonial frameworks, gesturing toward creation born from displacement.

Rather than representing the external world, her pieces function as internal landscapes: quiet, feeling-driven negotiations between form, emotion, and personal conflict. Ultimately, her practice is one of survival and self-understanding — a continuous, evolving process of making and becoming, guided by the belief that feeling deeply is reason enough to keep going.

Rat Bastard University: Home Sweet Home by Branden Lawless (WSU MFA THESIS SHOW)

Rat Bastard University: Home Sweet Home is an introduction to an absurd cast of characters and sidekicks. The ceramic sculptures explore archetypal personalities of real life lovers, friends, professors, and adversaries. Additionally, this exhibition explores identity and queerness as marketable ploys of capitalism, emerging at fully packaged action figures and branded merchandise.

OOPS! All Cats by Ink and Honey Studios

Woopsie! This exhibition is made up entirely of cats and the feline adjacent! In an effort to celebrate the short but impactful lives of the feline companion, the artists featured have created wonderful works including cats (and some things that aren’t cats, but are very close). OOPS! All Cats! is, in part, a fundraiser for KHS (Kansas Humane Society) as a way to support the local community and its animals.

I Want to Believe What You See by Zayden Tomson

“I want to believe what you see” is a collection of work made in 2025 by Zayden Tomson. Zayden is an artist and designer living in Wichita. He produces many forms of art, ranging from mono prints to illustrations to large sculptures. He challenges himself with each project to attempt something new. His work revolves around his past and present, human connection, and spirituality.

Eden Quispe: Narrative Threads

Naftzger Family Regional Creatives Exhibition Series

Feb. 13 - Aug. 16, 2026
Eden Quispe spent her formative years between inner city Wichita and the Kansas countryside, establishing an early passion for art and an interest in culture. After graduating from Wichita State University, she lived independently for five years in Lima, Perú, teaching art and getting to know Perú’s culture and textile heritage.
Now based in Newton, Kansas, Quispe creates tapestries observing the centrality of motherhood in child-rearing using scenes from her own mixed culture household. As a mother of four, Quispe creates her work from a place of embraced chaos. Her own children are present when the works are being made, her children often adding their own marks to the images.

About the artist and Eden Quispe: Narrative Threads

Many of the embroidery pieces collaged into Quispe’s work are over 50 years old and were handmade by women whose role was usually centered in the home. Other more contemporary items, such as clothing from the artist’s family, cloth toys from the artist’s children, and items from her husband’s Hispanic heritage are also worked into the pieces. These object memories are sewn together, painted, and printed on to create quilted collages honoring women whose stitchwork never got its time in the spotlight.

WAM’s Naftzger Family Regional Creatives exhibition series is dedicated to exhibiting art by local artists. This program is a partnership with Harvester Arts, a local nonprofit art organization fostering opportunities for Wichita creatives. Their core values of experimentation, capacity building, and community engagement are a framework for this partnership, which includes this exhibition space and programming with local creatives, including performances, talks, and pop-up experiences.
